FLIR THERMAL/AR CAMERA SYSTEM
FLIR’S next generation thermal imaging systems are as yet superexpensive, but this M364C system represents one of the most valuable uses of 360° onboard cameras. By combining augmented reality software with thermal and high definition cameras, the system can not only recognise the colour of buoys, navigation lights and running lights, but overlay distance and bearing onto a plotter display. Impressive. Price: €19,500. www.flir.co.uk
VESPER CORTEX AIS
The Cortex brings together a number of useful functions and technologies in one nicely made unit. It is a wireless DSC VHF with a touchscreen handset. It has an MOB function that activates a track back mode and marks the waypoint on connected multifunction displays. It can show your boat’s position via an integrated smartais transponder and, when connected with NMEA 2000, can provide remote monitoring of information such as power, location, wind speed and more on a smartphone. It also provides an anchor alarm on or away from a boat. Price: €1,729. www2. vespermarine.com
RAYMARINE ASSISTED DOCKING
Raymarine has been busy developing 3D cameras for docking somewhat similar to the parking assist systems commonplace in cars. Docksense uses stereo vision cameras and sensors to provide a picture of how close areas of a boat are to the dock. The driver still has to do the parking, but in the fullness of time, automatic self-docking systems will surely come. Price: TBC. www.raymarine.co.uk
