Hurrah for tax cut and a house of my dreams

-

A few have tried but I feel it’s hard to knock chancellor and Yorkshire MP Rishi Sunak’s decision to raise the stamp duty land tax threshold to £500,000.

It is a tax cut, albeit a shortterm one that expires on March 31 20201, and those don’t come along very often. It will be huge bonus to those buying a home priced between £125,000 and £500,000.

The chancellor hopes his generosity will boost sales, prop up house prices and support house builders. Some first-time buyers will also benefit but, as we detail in the story above, the main issue facing those desperate to buy their first home is a lack of suitable mortgage deals.

Mortgage adviser and Property Post columnist Andrew Milnes believes this will be a short-term issue and let us hope so as they are the life blood of the housing market.

In the meantime, all there is to do is save, hope and dream, which is something I am doing as I look to make a sideways move to somewhere even more rural.

I have seen the perfect property. It is The Forge in the idyllic village of Coxwold and I am featuring in this weekend’s Property Post. I’ll have to win the Lottery or the boss will have to sanction a ridiculous pay rise before I can afford it so

I’m putting it out there in the hope that it is someone else’s ideal home.

Why do I love it? It is beautiful, full of character, it has glorious gardens and the location is sublime plus it has an adjoining cottage and one of the best shepherd’s huts I’ve ever seen.
