Briggswath is a quiet hamlet of houses with a historic Wesleyan chapel that sit on a hillside with southerly views across the Esk Valley.
Part of the parish of Eskdaleside-cumUgglebarnby, it is named after one of the medieval bridges over the Esk. Briggswath is just over two miles from Whitby and sits alongside its far busier neighbour, Sleights, which is well-served village with shops, a post office, primary school, church and doctor’s surgery.
