Town is hotspot as outsiders rush to buy

-

Boroughbridge and its surrounding villages have become a hotspot for buyers with big budgets.

The town’s revamped high street is proving a big draw, too.

Harriet Naish-Bain, associate director at GSC Grays, believes the success of the town is a reflection of the strong market for premium properties driven by the flight to more rural areas sparked by the pandemic.

Harriet says: “There was an influx of buyers from out of the area looking for properties of £1m or more during lockdown and there was a limited supply.

“The market is still buoyant, especially for properties that have some land.”

She says: “I grew up in the Boroughbridge area and the demographic has changed completely, as has the High Street. People come to Boroughbridge to do their shopping from the surrounding villages now and it is very busy with visitors on a Saturday.”

“At the heart of the demand are nearby villages such as Bishop Monkton, Marton cum Grafton, Great Ouseburn and Little Ouseburn, Green Hammerton and Aldborough.”

Harriet believes the transformation of the High Street, where GSC Grays has its office, has been a crucial factor in making the area attractive for buyers.

She said: “There has been a real High Street revival and another attraction for buyers in this area is the easy access to the A1 and the East coast mainline train services to London and Edinburgh taking less than two hours from York.”

There are railway stations in nearby Knaresborough, Cattal and Whixley.

Properties on the market in the area at the moment include a detached, four bedroom, home in Langthorpe for £595,000 with GSC Grays, and a two-bedroom semi detached house in Boroughbridge for £249,995 with Stephensons.
