On the grapevine

-

I am looking for an apprentice to join me at the International Wine Challenge on April 19 in London. This is a chance to meet many famous faces from the wine world and taste some excellent and some, frankly, less good wines. The whole experience is fun, challenging and not at all intimidating. If you are interested then email me (Christine@ christineaustin.co.uk) and tell me about your enthusiasm for wine.

Martinez Wines is holding a wine dinner on Wednesday at Quinta Bar and Grill in Ilkley featuring the fabulous wines of Bouchard Finlayson from South Africa. The four-course dinner costs £55 including four wines which will be introduced by Lia Povida from Bouchard Finlayson. Ring Quinta on 01943 602670 to book.

Even though Brad and Angelina have split, the wine produced at their Provence estate, Ch. Miraval, will still be made. Marc Perrin, owner of Ch. de Beaucastel in the Rhône who makes the wine at Miraval, has said that the estate is not for sale. I tasted the 2016 Ch. Miraval last week (Sainsbury’s, £18) and it is perfectly poised, with delicious light strawberry fruit and a gentle, long finish. A wine to enjoy in spring sunshine.
