Cottingley Furnishers has been a name to trust for fine furniture and accessories over a period of more than 20 years.
In that time the nature of the business has changed in line with customer tastes and wider developments – but in certain important respects it remains the same and adheres to the same principles.
In 1996 it began as an outlet for a familyrun pine furniture-making company. However, as the production aspect became less economical, the focus turned to sourcing quality furnishings from a range of suppliers and in a variety of materials, as Emma Wilkinson (whose father established the business) explains.
“We now sell furniture in oak, sheesham and other woods, as well as pine,” she says. “However, around 50 per cent of furniture in the showroom is still made in the UK and we still place a big emphasis on quality and keeping up with changing trends.”
Cottingley Furnishers operates from a 5,000 sq ft showroom. The ground floor is divided into a series of attractive room settings to display the furniture and accessories to the best effect, giving customers a realistic impression of how particular items might fit into their own home. Furniture ranges encompass the dining room, living room, kitchen and bedroom, together with a selection of hallway and occasional pieces. All furniture is solidly built, much of it being handcrafted, and uses timber from sustainable forests wherever possible. Although prices can be very affordable, if you are looking for discount flat-pack furniture then you need to go elsewhere!
One area in which Cottingley Furnishers has expanded its range is accessories and giftware, with a hand-picked selection of mirrors, lamps, rugs, artwork, clocks, cushions and much more.
As well as a beautiful addition to your home they make delightful gifts, suitable for any occasion so it’s worth calling in to see just what is on offer.
When you do, you will find a small, friendly and knowledgeable staff team ready to help you make the best choice, although customers are free to browse without coming under any pressure to buy.
That much said, if you see something you like in the showroom and want to take it away there and then, that’s quite OK.
“We sell from the showroom, ” explains Emma. “So if you decide you’d like to eat Sunday lunch from a new table that has caught your eye, we can arrange for you to take it away with you there and then.
“We also happy to order items for customers planning house moves or renovations so they are available when the time comes and we try our best to meet their schedule. We also have a spring sale at the moment, with discounts on all furniture of 30, 40 or 50 per cent.”
Cottingley Furnishers is conveniently located just off the A650: take the roundabout at the Bradford end of Bingley bypass toward the town centre and it is just past the Yorkshire Clinic.
