Truly creative interiors
Just one search on social media sites such as Instagram and Pinterest for ‘interior design’ and you’ll be flooded with trends and inspiration from interior design companies, manufacturers, influencers and bloggers.
It’s easy to get swept away swooning over achingly beautiful décor that looks effortless. But what really is great interior design and what does it take to create it?
Michael Metcalfe is lead designer at
Harpers Interiors, based in Huddersfield who specialise in providing personalised design services to private residences from concept to installation, or as a complete turnkey service.
Michael is renowned for his expert eye, bringing luxury into context to curate creative design fitting for a client’s lifestyle and the age and style of the property.
He says: “Besides being aesthetically pleasing, the design has to stand the test of time, be highly functional and enhance our clients’ lives.
“After all, a home is to be lived in, and in order to live, everything needs to have a purpose, be in the right place and work exactly as it is meant to.
“Without these basic principles, interior design has no depth, yet it’s the depth that is good interior design.”
Harpers have a portfolio of skilled tradespeople working under the instruction of a dedicated project manager. This results in interior design that is fluid and installed efficiently, eliminating the risk of the project going out of plan or budget.
Passionate about design and detail, the highly technical project management team produce precise CAD drawings, which can be transposed into full visuals and 3D renders, enabling the client to really see and feel the end result.
“This is so important,” says Michael. “When we present floor plans, layouts and full visuals along with a board of fabrics and textiles it really brings the idea to life and most importantly gives the client total confidence in the project.
“There is sometimes a fear factor when
With Harpers Interiors the beauty is in the detail: interior design in depth
commissioning interior design. Our goal is to take away any uncertainty through open dialogue right from the offset with detailed planning and documentation to remove any opportunity for misinterpretation.
“Some clients are keen to be involved in every detail of a project, others like to leave us to it: both are absolutely fine.
“We want our clients to embark on a project feeling content. We, at Harpers, take pride in creating that environment.”
When not working on projects, Michael loves to travel and seek out beautiful accessories for his commissions, picking up trends at the Milan Interiors Show and unique finds from around the world, which are made available to clients.
