Dear Style Clinic

I haven’t used a proper handbag since lockdown began and I can’t really see myself going back to them, as there seems to be so much to carry these days. What do you suggest?

I completely agree, the small to medium-sized handbag still feels like a pointless accessory – what’s the use of it now that we have to take hand sanitiser, tissues, face coverings, cardi, umbrella, water and perhaps even lunch with us?

Roomy but stylish is the way to go, and as multi-purpose as possible. If it’s food you’re carrying, this Beau & Elliot convertible lunch bag keeps food and drink cool for four hours and can be converted into a larger shopping bag by unclipping the side press studs, so you can dine al fresco before you shop.

Sweaty Betty makes roomy but glam bags that work brilliantly for life on the go, not just the gym, and this one is on sale. It has divided compartments including internal mesh bottle pocket and zip wet pocket, plus the wide straps make it comfortable on the shoulders.

Launching later this month, White Stuff has partnered with sustainabilitychampioning British brand Roka on the Kennington crossbody satchel bag, made in four shades in matt nylon and triple-coated weather-proof canvas, ethically produced, vegan and animal-friendly. Lightweight, durable and water resistant, it’s suited for town and countryside yomping.
