Art ahoy: Hull-born Henry Redmore’s oil on panel painting of a pilot cutter with other shipping and a lightvesse­l in the distance, believed to be on the Humber, fetched £1,785 at a Bonhams marine sale in London.

Rabbit and mouse: At Summersgil­ls of Easingwold, an 8ft oak dining table and 10 matching oak lattice-back chairs by former Mouseman apprentice Peter “Rabbitman” Heap, of Wetwang, fetched £4,000 between them; an oil of Highland cattle by York-born artist Henry Robinson Hall (1859-1927) realised £944; and a Battersby of Stockport top hat and Herbert Johnson of London bowler together made £590.

Long service: A group of seven medals awarded to Whitby-born Chief Stoker Charles Bayford, who during a long military career served in the Army and the Royal Navy between 1891 and 1922, are set to fetch £2,000-£3,000 at Dix Noonan Webb, London, on Thursday.

Lap record: An unusual Alfetta 158 racing car by Alfa Romeo went for an unexpected £4,560 – top lot at a Tennants toys, sports and fishing sale and nine times more than expected. A small collection of showbiz memorabili­a collected by actor and impresario Arthur Brough, who played Mr Grainger in the TV series Are You Being Served? (previewed here), made £840.

Hot stuff: A Victorian silver novelty silver pepper shaker by George John Richards, London, 1850, in the form of an owl with red glass eyes, realised £670 at Elstob & Elstob of Ripon.
