Shop safely at SASO for county quality

-

There is all the space you could possibly need to browse and buy in complete safety at the SASO Bed Superstore, in Castleford.

More than ever before, the sheer size of the showroom is coming into its own – and that also, of course, means there is scope to display an impressive range of products.

Outstanding among them is a superb collection of beds and mattresses by Harrison Spinks, the long-established Yorkshire company with an unrivalled reputation for quality and workmanship.

“Made in Yorkshire” is a proud proclamation of many businesses but few can mean it to the extent of Harrison Spinks.

From the basic raw materials onward, as much as possible of each bed and mattress is sourced within the county, with many of the materials and components produced in-house.

It begins at the company’s own farm on the banks of the River Wharfe, near Tadcaster, where 600 sheep provide most of the wool for pillows and mattresses (the rest is bought from the British Wool Marketing Board, in Bradford).

The sheep graze on 150 acres of organically-managed pasture, while a similar area is given to growing hemp and flax, absorbent fibres which control mattress moisture.

The farm was bought in 2009 and as well as playing a crucial role in reducing supply chain mileage and CO2 emissions, it is also a wildlife haven. The company works alongside Natural England and the RSPB to improve habitat, resulting in 58 bird species being recorded.

The same ethos of local sourcing and sustainability also means the majority of timber for divan frames and headboards comes from Harrison Spinks’ own 56-acre woodland in North Yorkshire. Both this and other timber suppliers are Forestry Stewardship Council accredited.

As well as keeping as much raw material supply as possible in-house, the company also undertakes its own manufacturing processes wherever possible. Heavy-grade wire is bought in before being drawn out and made into springs on site, while there are also weaving facilities at the factory.

In recognition of its work to improve sustainability, Harrison Spinks received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2019 and also holds Carbon Neutral Organisation status.

These sit alongside a number of other Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, reflecting the innovative approach at the heart of the company’s philosophy.

It goes without saying that Harrison Spinks are by no means the only products available at SASO, which also stocks beds and mattresses by leading

British manufacturers including

Hypnos, Millbrook and Relyon, all of which focus on craftsmanship and quality.
