Better still: Hotham’s Gin School and Distillery in Hull has won a silver medal in the Best New Tourism Business category at the VisitEngland Awards 2020. A visit to Hotham’s offers a luxury gin-making experience where visitors can distil their own blend of gin to take home. Co-founder Simon Pownall said this award was “the icing on the cake”, having already received many awards for Hotham’s gin. The Gin Experience in Hull and Leeds can be booked at www.hothams.co.uk, starting at £125.

Wine Journeys: No one is visiting vineyards at present, but that doesn’t stop you making a journey with your taste buds. Bouchard Père et Fils, which sponsored the 2018 Yorkshire Post Wine Quiz, has put together six packs of bottles which will give a taste of key vineyards in their region. The wines come with maps, technical information and a presentation on the region. The Journey in Beaune (£360) contains six superlative wines from several Premier Cru vineyards, including the historic Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus 2018. The Journey in Meursault (£475 for six wines) is equally thrilling, featuring 2018 vintage wines from Charmes, Les Gouttes,

Genevrières and Perrières. If you are interested in these wines, which will be delivered in November in time for Christmas, contact Richard@

Hoults now open: After a Herculean effort to move stock in the middle of a heatwave, as well as supervising the refit of the new shop, Hoults Wines is now open for business at the Railway Arches, on Viaduct Street in Huddersfield. The phone number remains 01484 510700, so ring to find out what gems Rob has unearthed during the move.
