Calling all wine fiends...

-

The Fiendish Wine Quiz has been uncorked, though it’s not quite the same as recent vintages. Let me explain...

Welcome to the 2020 Fiendish Wine Quiz specially designed to keep your brain cells sharp in this season of excess food and social distancing. This year’s quiz is quite different from those of recent years in that there will not be a top prize of a trip to a vineyard. Winners of past quizzes have been whisked off to Champagne, Burgundy and Jerez, as well as South Africa and Australia. We have had a wonderful time, but the pandemic means that this is just not possible.

So now you will need to work for fun and for wine. There will be a case of good quality wine for the winner. As always, you may use any means at your disposal to get to the right answers, including pestering your local wine merchant in a socially distant manner since they are often an invaluable source of information. This quiz is not open to anyone in the wine trade and that includes wine lecturers and bloggers who should concentrate on helping their students and followers win.

I will mark all the entries and no arguing will be allowed, although in this year of tedium and staying at home, any nitpicking and point-scoring from regular readers will be welcome.

All correct entries will go into Grapevine’s ice bucket and the winner will be chosen at random. There is no cash alternative to the prize.
