There are numerous things you might associate with the historic seaport and holiday resort of Whitby but it is a safe bet that bed manufacturing is unlikely to be one of them.
That, however, is just what a family business in the town has been doing for more than 30 years, to the satisfaction of customers from across Yorkshire and beyond.

Bed Company is exactly what its name suggests and is the recently-adopted title for the beds division of Beevers, a longestablished business which has been a byword for the best in all kinds of furnishing across four decades.

Bed Company employs skilled craftspeople to hand-build each product, ensuring what you buy is just right for you and ensures a good night’s sleep.
As well as specifying bed bases in any one of dozens of colours and finishes to match their decor, customers can also choose mattresses with between 800 and 3,000 pocket springs to give superb support.
A Whitby Handmade Bed Company mattress is carefully hand stitched to give support to the sides, meaning it does not sag when you sit on it or dip down when you roll toward it in your sleep.
As well as standard beds, electronically-adjustable beds and massage beds are also produced, using components of the highest quality to make up the base and motor parts.
Describing the process all beds must undergo before they leave the factory, Whitby Handmade Bed Company manager Derek Parker says:
“The pocket springs we use are individual so that when one moves the whole row doesn’t move and you don’t roll together.
“But what’s just as important as the springs are the fillings. We use natural fillings including lambswool for warmth and breathability, curled hair for durability, cotton for comfort and cashmere for softness.”
Once the mattress is stitched it goes into a special compression machine that compacts the mattress and stitches the buttons in place.
Memory foam is also very popular and Whitby Handmade Bed Company beds have up to three inches of foam on top and can be soft, medium or hard.
