Doctor Who
DRAMA
The festive season just wouldn’t be the same without a special episode of Doctor Who – and this one is a belter, featuring some familiar faces.
Incarcerated in a space prison where she is being held by Judoon, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor is separated from the rest of the Tardis team. Ryan, Graham and Yaz are back on Earth and about to get an unpleasant surprise visit from those perennial motorised baddies the Daleks.
They are all set to unleash their deadliest plan yet, but luckily help is at hand in the form of Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) making another guest appearance, following on from his involvement in the series earlier this year. Barrowman has said that this New Year’s Day special is “a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions” as the team face one of their biggest challenges yet.
Other guest stars include Harriet Walter as Jo Patterson, Chris Noth as Alan Robertson and Nathan StewartJarrett as Leo Rugazzi.
Although the episode was filmed and completed long before the UK’s first lockdown in March, the storyline of being confined, as the Doctor is, will certainly resonate with viewers.
Sadly, at the end of the 70-minute special we will be waving goodbye to two of the Doctor’s fellow travellers in the form of Graham (Bradley Walsh) and Ryan (Tosin Cole), who are leaving the series. And if this episode has inspired you to watch more of Doctor Who, then you can always head to BBC iPlayer where all the series since 2005 (featuring Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi in the title role) are available to view.
