Bright ideas
My favourite interior design guru,
Kate Watson-Smyth, has made a big impression with her blog madaboutthehouse and her books, which are full of fantastic and practical advice on all things home related.
Her latest venture is Design Storey, an interiors-specific edit-store, where she curates a 50 “best of ” key items for the home from a range of different brands.
Kate, inset, says: “The idea for Design Storey came about after realising that there is such a thing as too much choice. Most of us just want a good lamp or a nice rug, but we don’t want to spend hours trawling through pages of stuff that we don’t want, to find it.
“It’s becoming an increasingly complicated market to navigate and a lot of designs that should be worthy of mention are getting lost in all the noise. So Design Storey filters down the 50 best designs for different rooms in the home – so 50 sofas, 50 dining tables, 50 cushions. Each has its own explanation as to why it has made the cut, whether it’s a classic that will hold its value, a statement piece that will bring the wow factor or a piece that has an inspiring story behind its materials and craftsmanship.”
Kate has also included notes on how to incorporate the designs successfully into your own home.
Among the items she has chosen is the Botera modular sofa, from
Oka, £6,285; the Pumpkin pendant,
£88 in opaline glass, from Pooky; the Bascombe circular rug, £395, by Amy Patterson for Made.com; the Buisseau oak and cane bed, £550, from La Redoute; and the printed sham tassel cushion, £49.50, from Oliver Bonas.
