Saluting heroes

-

The Yorkshire Post has teamed up with five of our Michelin star chefs to offer a special prize to five key worker heroes. Catherine Scott reports.

Yorkshire has recently been awarded seven Michelin stars – the most since the UK restaurant guide started in 1974. To mark the occasion and to pay tribute to some of those people who have given so much during the coronavirus pandemic, The Yorkshire Post and five of the county’s Michelin-starred chefs want to honour those who have gone the extra mile to help others. We are asking readers to nominate an NHS or key worker for one of five Michelin-starred prizes. It could be a doctor or a nurse, a care home worker, a teacher or someone in your community who has helped make a difference during these difficult times.

The winners will receive a special Michelinstarred treat as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for everything they have done.

It has been a difficult time for everyone, and no industry has been hit as hard as the hospitality sector, but today Yorkshire’s Michelin Star chefs want to give their thanks and explain why.

The prizes kindly donated are:

■ Tommy Banks: A Made in Oldstead Food Box delivered to the winner’s door.

■ James Mackenize: Three-course lunch for two people at The Pipe and Glass, South Dalton.

■ Andrew Pern: Three-course Sunday lunch for two with a bottle of “Pernshire”, chef ’s recommendation wine.

■ Shaun Rankin: A meal for two at Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall.

■ Michael Wignall: A fine dining Angel at Home food box delivered to the winner’s door with a bottle of wine.

Margaret Kitching, Chief Nurse for the North East and Yorkshire, says: “Across Yorkshire, and indeed the whole country, people are working tirelessly to keep us all safe and well, while others maintain essential services and just as my colleagues across the NHS, in social care and other public services have rightly been praised for their work during the pandemic. This wonderful gesture is kind recognition of everyone’s efforts.”
