On the grapevine
Fiendish Quiz: Congratulations to J Birch of Huddersfield who answered all 29 questions correctly and described her favourite Côtes de Gascogne wine with enthusiasm. She wins a six-bottle case of wine from importers Hatch Mansfield which contains Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc from South Africa, Esk Valley Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Caliterra Sauvignon Blanc from Chile, CVNE Rioja from Spain, single vineyard Burgundy from Jadot, and a Sancerre from Joseph Mellot.
Honourable mentions go to M Berry, J. Dyer, A M Haigh and R Marsden who also scored 100 per cent but sadly didn’t win a prize. Thanks to all who entered, I hope I helped you pass a few hours of lockdown.
The answers to all questions are below, however I must admit that Q9 had a mistake. Having trawled through all detective names and wine brands, I was convinced there was no wine called Poirot – but I was wrong. Thanks to all who politely told me so. Whatever you answered to Q9, you scored full marks.

Delivery rounds: What with lockdown and bad weather the best option is to call your local wine merchant and get them to drop off your wine. All our Yorkshire independent merchants have a delivery service, usually free within a five or 10 mile radius, and with in-person shopping becoming so very difficult you might as well stock up with a case or two.
