Dear Style Clinic
I feel I have forgotten how to wear make-up, especially lipstick, but I would like to prepare for when mask-wearing becomes less necessary by investing in some new ones. What do you suggest?
I gave up on lipstick (my favourite make-up item) when I decided I was sick of the sight of it staining the inside of my face masks.
However, the time has come, I agree, to put aside such foolish fears and boldly embrace the prospect of lip colour and coverage once again.
There is a decided 1980s feel to makeup for SS21, so think striking colour and a flash of dazzle. lllamasqua global director of artistry Pablo Rodriguez created the catwalk looks for Mark Fast using defined eye make-up in pops of purple and rustic coppers with false lashes paired with light reflecting skin. Illamasqua’s Beyond Lipstick collection offers a luxe cream lipstick with a shimmering finish and a cushioned comfort feel in wearable shades from a classic red to a warm nude. For a natural look, apply straight from the bullet or, for a more defined look, team with a Colour Lip Pencil for long wear. The lipsticks can also be worn on the cheeks as a cream blusher, by rubbing a fluffy brush through the bullet and blending on to the apples of cheeks for a soft flush.
If you are not looking to spend too much, MAC Mini Matte Lipsticks are a great low-cost way to invest in the neon lip trend (as seen on the Versace catwalks).
Online at Debenhams, Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipsticks are highly pigmented in a matte formula that glides on and saturates the lips with intense colour using satintexture powders that form a film that flexes and bends.
