You can’t beat a good walk with a nice view of water. Here are five places you might like to visit...

Bolton Abbey: This popular spot in Wharfedale, next to the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian monastery now known as Bolton Priory, is a great place for a walk amid stunning scenery. Not surprisingly it is a popular site for a picnic too. Parking is £10 per car and must be pre-booked.

Dalby Forest: The landscape here offers a variety of different woodland trails and there is a stream that runs through parts of the forest. Glacial valleys to the south create a unique ‘rigg and dale’ landscape, while the north of the forest sits on an upland plateau. Parking is £9 for the day.

Hardcastle Crags: This beauty spot near Hebden Bridge was a popular spot in the early 20th century for people coming for a day out. The 19th-century Gibson Mill is at the heart of this spectacular wooded valley. Parking is free for National Trust Members, or £5 for non members.

Padley Gorge: Located in the Peak District about 10 miles south west of Sheffield, this has some excellent woodland trails along with wonderful views of tumbling waterfalls and it also happens to be a great place for a picnic. You can park on the roadside and there is often an ice cream van nearby.

Hackfall Woods: Situated within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hackfall – between Grewelthorpe and Masham – covers nearly 120 acres of ancient semi-natural woodland within a steep, rocky gorge of the River Ure. It also has waterfalls and streams - basically, it’s got the lot.
