MY FIRST CAR

- By Steve Teale Jenni Fletcher www.jennifletcher.com.

Author Jenni Fletcher said she was delighted to be able to drive when she passed her test first time and she was very fond of her Honda Jazz.

The historical romance author from Hull said she was a latecomer to motoring but now she enjoys driving, although she is limited to automatics.

“I was in my 30s before I learned to drive but I absolutely love it now,” she added.

“The Honda was second-hand but it was a lovely car to drive. I had children and suddenly public transport wasn’t quite so attractive.

“It was important for me to be able to get a pram in the boot. I passed my test first time so I was quite pleased. I had a great instructor which really helped.”

Jenni – who has been five times nominated for the Romantic Novel Awards – now regularly drives to Lincoln’s Bishop Grosseteste University where she teaches.

“I love the drive to Lincoln,” she said. “It takes almost exactly an hour to get there or back.”

She now drives a Skoda Yeti, which she says is far from glamorous but is good for towing a caravan.

“To be honest, my deal form of transport would be a motorhome.”

Of her writing, Jenni said: “I’ve wanted to be a writer pretty much ever since I could read.

“I got hooked on historical romance when I was a teenager and my first book was published by Mills & Boon/Harlequin in 2017.

“Since then I’ve written lots of love stories with lots of different heroes and heroines.

I’m still addicted to the warm fuzzy glow of romance. I’ve recently moved into YA [young adult] fiction with Penguin and I teach undergraduate Creative Writing at Bishop Grosseteste University.”
