A handmade guarantee of quality

-

A sound night’s sleep is the key to a productive day ahead – and there is no surer way to facilitate that than a high-quality bed.

The Whitby Handmade Bed Company has been helping people experience the ultimate in night-time comfort for more than 30 years, thanks to its range of bespoke beds and luxurious ma=resses.

As its name suggests, these are expertly crafted by a team of experienced artisans in a factory on the outskirts of the town, with a comprehensive range of their products on display in the Stakesby Vale showroom of parent company Beevers, a short distance from the harbour.

The pursuit of quality is they key to every aspect of the bed, ma=ress and headboard-making process, with only the best available raw materials entrusted to the hands of time-served craftspeople who take a real pride in their work.

Consequently, as well as customers local to the Beevers’ showrooms (there are others in Scarborough and Bridlington), Whitby Handmade Bed Company products are regularly shipped to homes across Yorkshire and beyond.

The company is a member of the National Bed Federation (NBF) which ensures standards are maintained through regular factory inspections – and the most recent audit at Whitby resulted in a Grade A rating, the highest possible.

“Everyone here was absolutely thrilled by the Grade A rating,” says company manager Derek Parker.

“It means we are ge=ing everything right and, more importantly, it means that our customers know they are buying beds and ma=resses that will give them many years of troublefree service.

“The inspectors go over absolutely everything with a finetooth comb. All materials have to be from sustainable sources, with a certificate from the timber suppliers to prove it, while cleanliness and fire resistance in the ma=ress materials are checked, too.”

In the factory’s joinery shop, seasoned timber is used to craft strong frames with a solid timber top and, where included, heavy“The

duty under-bed drawers.

This makes them extremely durable – in particular they will not sag with time – and is one reason why the company does a lot of business with hotels. bespoke nature of the process also means beds can be built to any size and shape – we have even produced circular beds,” says Derek.

“It also means the finishes can be co-rdinated with the

headboards and bedroom furniture.”

In the ma=ress area, multiple layers of the very best materials, including lambs wool, animal hair and cashmere, are combined in a co=on casing for a ma=ress which will aid a sound night’s sleep in all conditions.

“As with the beds themselves, every aspect of making a ma=ress, from stuffing to sewing to tufting, is done by hand and

means each one is unique,” says Derek.

“We are especially proud to employ skilled staff who know the job inside out, who take a pride in what they do and stay with us for many years.”

Delivery of Whitby Handmade Beds is free within a 75-mile radius of Whitby, after which all beds are fully assembled in the customer’s chosen room and the old bed removed for disposal.
