Shoe store asks customers to sell their soles

-

A SHOE store is offering shoppers the chance to trade in old and unwanted shoes as part of its bid to support a children’s disability charity.

Schuh is asking people to dig out pairs of unwanted shoes and deliver them to a drop-off point in The Broadway store in Bradford. In return, schuh will give donors a £10 voucher for every pair.

Discarded shoes will then be passed on to Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children, which recycles them to raise money to support disabled and terminally ill children across the UK.

Elizabeth Peacock, store manager at schuh within The Broadway, said: “We can’t wait to start collecting shoes. We’re looking forward to handing out vouchers, but we are most excited about supporting a fantastic charity which makes such a difference to the lives of so many children and their families.

“The charity helps to fund itself through a unique recycling operation and the support of donors and fundraisers all over the UK, so this shoe donation drive is really important to us.”

Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway, said: “It’s a coup for us that schuh has brought this campaign, which is running in just a select number of stores, to The Broadway.

“We are delighted that our shoppers will be able to benefit, and that we will all be able to get behind Newlife and the important work that it does.”

In addition to funding equipment grants, offering emergency equipment loans and investing in vital research, Newlife operates a National Nurse Helpline.

The charity provides equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, walking frames, seating and communication aids for children across the UK.

The Sell Your Soles campaign will run at schuh within The Broadway shopping centre until March 26.
