I am under no pressure over election result, says Ukip leader Nuttall

-

PAUL NUTTALL believes he will “come under no pressure whatsoever” to resign as leader should Ukip fail to win any seats at the General Election.

Ukip MEP Mike Hookem said Mr Nuttall had the “full support” of his fellow MEPs in Brussels after questions about his future were raised by reporters during a Westminster policy launch.

Mr Nuttall also initially appeared hesitant when asked if former leader Nigel Farage will be helping with his campaign to be elected MP for Boston and Skegness, noting: “I would think so.”

When pressed, he later said: “Yeah, of course, Nigel will come campaigning with me in Boston.”

Mr Nuttall failed in his byelection bid to become Stoke-onTrent Central MP in February, with questions raised about the party’s popularity with voters after it suffered heavy losses at this month’s local elections.

He has targeted the pro-Brexit Lincolnshire seat of Boston and Skegness at the June 8 election, where Conservative Matt Warman, who backed Remain in the EU referendum, is seeking reelection.

Mr Hookem, who represents Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire and was also speaking at the event, added: “He has the full support of the MEPs in Brussels.”

Questioned about Mr Farage’s role in the Ukip campaign, Mr Nuttall said: “Will Nigel Farage be out campaigning with me in Boston and Skegness? I would think so.”

Asked if he had not received such a commitment from Mr Farage or if it is to be arranged, Mr Nuttall said: “Nigel will be out campaigning with Ukip candidates across the country during this campaign, OK?”
