Brady’s body has been released to his lawyer

THE BODY of Moors Murderer Ian Brady has been released to his lawyer.

A spokesman for Sefton Council said the coroner’s office had confirmed the mortuary release form had been sent to the place where the killer’s body is being held under police guard.

The form means Brady’s body has been released and is now the property of the executor of his will, solicitor Robin Makin.

The 79-year-old serial killer died at 6.02pm on Monday at Ashworth High Secure Hospital in Maghull, Merseyside.

Opening an inquest into his death on Tuesday, senior coroner for Sefton Christopher Sumner delayed the release of his body to ask for assurances that a funeral director and crematorium willing to take it had been found.

He also asked for an assurance the ashes of Brady would not be scattered on Saddleworth Moor, where the remains of four of Brady and Myra Hindley’s five child victims were found.

At a reconvened hearing on Wednesday, the coroner’s court heard Mr Makin had said there was “no likelihood” the ashes would be scattered there.

Brady and Hindley were jailed for life for the killings of John Kilbride, 12, 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans, 17. They went on to admit the murders of Pauline Reade, 16, and 12-year-old Keith Bennett. Hindley died in jail aged 60 in November 2002.

Meanwhile, a letter written by Brady from behind bars has been removed from sale by online auction site eBay.

The document penned by the child killer was reportedly offered for sale for £310 shortly after his death. EBay confirmed the item – sent to a man in Australia in 2008 – was removed from sale.
