-

THE FAMILY of a father-ofthree who died when a crane collapsed at a building site have paid tribute to him.

David Newall, 36, from Bradford, and Rhys Barker, 18, from Castleford, died when the crane collapsed at the site where they were working in Crewe, Cheshire, on June 21.

In a statement, Mr Newall’s family said: “David was an amazing daddy, son, brother, uncle and friend.

“He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him because he would simply do anything for anyone and go above and beyond if he could help.

“He was a devoted daddy to his three children who will miss him terribly.

“As a family we would like to offer our thanks to all the emergency services involved on the night of this terrible tragedy and the continued support we have received in the days following.”

Emergency services were called to the site at 4.30pm following reports of a collapsed crane.

Post-mortem examinations showed both men died from crush injuries.

A 45-year-old man from Glossop was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital and a parent and child in a house damaged by the falling crane were taken to hospital for a check-up as a precaution, but were not injured.

Cheshire police said an investigation into the circumstances was continuing in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.
