‘Bold’ PM insists she is still a serious player on the world stage

-

THERESA MAY has said she will show “bold” leadership despite the disastrous General Election that has devastated her credibility.

As she arrived at the G20 summit in Hamburg, the Prime Minister said she was still taken seriously on the world stage and claimed other leaders believe she will still be in post in two years time.

But Mrs May admitted the result of the June 8 vote “didn’t come out as I hoped it would”, adding: “There’s two ways the Government can react to that. We can be very timid and sit back or we can be bold and that’s what we are going to be.”

During a series of interviews where the PM faced repeated questions about her personal authority and Britain’s global standing, she insisted she would play her “full part” in international issues.

Asked by Sky News if people around the G20 table were convinced she would be there in a year or two’s time, Mrs May replied: “Yes.

“We will be playing our absolutely full part.

“I’ll be playing my full part and the issues that we are discussing are important.”

G20 countries “will be listening and will be taking us seriously and will be working with us”, she told Channel 4 News.

Mrs May denied she was full of regrets following a torrid month that has seen her lose the Government’s majority and face intense criticism.
