‘Naughty Noah’ who stole food from sharks slims down on diet

-

A “GREEDY” turtle who stole food from the sharks he shares his tank with has shed 11lb after being put on a four-month diet.

Noah the endangered green sea turtle, nicknamed “Naughty Noah” by visitors to Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre, would guzzle squid meant for the blacktip reef sharks at feeding time and had excess fat on his back and ankles.

He had weighed 14st 13lb before his diet, but when staff lifted him from his ocean tank in a basket for his weigh-in they found this had dropped to 14st 2lb.

The 13-year-old reptile had been on a diet of egg-shaped snacks made of green lowcalorie turtle-friendly jelly with vegetable delicacies including broccoli, spinach and kale.

Aquarist Shane Breadmore, who dived into the tank and helped lift Noah into the basket, said the weigh-in was “great news” and showed the diet was working.

But, unfortunately for Noah, he was still “slightly overweight” and ready to take on sharks.

“His ideal weight would probably be about 85 to 90 (kg) so he’s at the high end of it now so maybe a kilo or so more,” he added.

However, he said some things about Noah could not be changed.

“He’s still quite greedy,” he said. “

“You’re probably not going to be able to change his personality, it’s just how he is and you’ll see every time we feed the sharks, he’s always coming over.”
