Guiseley earn draw but Halifax suffer after late double

- NATIONAL LEAGUE

GUISELEY gained a fine point at home against one of the favourites for promotion, drawing 0-0 with Tranmere Rovers.

But FC Halifax Town remain without a league win after a dramatic 2-1 defeat at home to Dover in which two goals were scored in stoppage-time.

Guiseley manager Adam Lockwood was pleased with his team, commenting: “It was a good performance against a side who are fighting for promotion.

“I asked for a reaction (after their 6-0 defeat at Aldershot) and I got just that. We can build on this.”

He had made changes from Saturday with goalkeeper Jonny Maxted on the bench and exScarborough Athletic No 1 Joe Green starting for the first time for the Lions.

Tranmere would have taken all three points but for a miss by Andy Cook from three yards, but Guiseley were able to gain a deserved point ahead of Saturday’s match against Torquay United.

Tom Denton’s equaliser appeared to have rescued a point for Halifax against Dover after Mitch Brundle’s late opener.

But substitute Toni Sho-Silva popped up with a winner from a corner barely a minute after Denton’s goal, Halifax’s first in six hours of football.

After the interval Matthew Kosylo had a shot cleared off the line as the hosts began to offer more of a threat going forward thanks to the impact of Josh Macdonald, but Dover hit the bar for the second time after a goalmouth scramble.

Kosylo put another couple of efforts wide as Halifax grew in confidence. But moments after Macdonald just missed connecting with a low cross at one end, Brundle headed in Femi Ilseanmi’s cross at the other end to hand Dover what looked like a gut-wrenching winner.

Denton headed in Josh Wilde’s high cross from six yards to finally get the Shaymen up and running, but Halifax were left shell-shocked when a corner was headed down and scrambled in by Sho-Silva.
