Hospice to mark its formation with event

-

YORKSHIRE FAMILIES still have time to sign up for a bear-themed family walk at Temple Newsam in Leeds this weekend.

The Big Bear Hug Family Walk is being held to support Martin House Hospice Care for children and young people.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, includes two walks around the grounds of Temple Newsam, along with a host of bear-themed family activities.

There are two walks on the day. One is a wheelchair and pushchair-accessible 2k and the other is a longer 5k route through the woods, both with activity packs for children to complete.

There will also be a special prize draw to conclude the day, with Build-A-Bear vouchers up for grabs.

Ellie Barker, events fundraiser at Martin House, said the event was to mark the hospice’s anniversary.

She said: “Families are at the heart of what we do, so we wanted to hold an event all the family could enjoy together as part of our anniversary celebrations.

“We’re hoping people will bring along their bears, have fun and help us to celebrate 30 years of caring.”

Other activities on the day will include a bouncy castle and fairground rides, bear-themed children’s activities including decorating a gingerbread bear, a craft fair and food stands.

Martin House provides care for children and young people – and their families – with life-limiting conditions from West, North and East Yorkshire at its hospice in Boston Spa, in hospitals and in their own homes.

The Bear Hug Walks commence from 11am.

The event costs £10 for a family ticket.

To book, visit www.martinhouse.org.uk or just turn up on the day to take part.
