Sir Peter had an internatio­nal reputation as the foremost authority on Shakespear­ean directing and became known for being outspoken about funding for the theatre.

The chief executive of the Leeds Community Foundation charity has announced that she is stepping down from her role.

Sally-Anne Greenfield, who set up the charity from her living room in 2004, said she wanted to pursue “new challenges”.

The foundation has distribute­d more than £33m in grants to community groups over the years.
