Town up to second as Guiseley draw

-

FC Halifax Town recorded a sensational 3-0 win at Leyton Orient to move up to second place in the National League.

Adam Morgan and Tom Denton put Town into a barelybelievable 2-0 half-time lead before Matty Kosylo’s penalty capped a magnificent night for the Shaymen – surely their best result yet under Billy Heath.

If Town were in the nosebleed territory of sixth before kick-off, Morgan’s goal put them joint-top of the league as the Shaymen made the perfect start, with the striker turning sharply eight yards out to fire high into the net left-footed.

Denton found the net as the Town man met a flighted freekick at the far post with a bullet header to double the visitors’ lead as the game reached eyebrow-raising proportions.

The game was put beyond doubt when Kosylo sent Grainger the wrong way from the spot to the sound of stunned silence – apart from the jubilant 153 Town fans – after Morgan had been fouled in the box.

gained their second point with Paul Cox as manager after drawing 0-0 at Barrow.

Cox returned to Holker Street just 19 days after leaving his former club.

The hosts had the first chance when Bedsente Gomis was fed through into the area, his strike towards the near post was well saved by Joe Green who did well to block it with his legs.

Asa Hall was the next to test Green, with his effort from 20 yards out being palmed away cleverly.

But Guiseley had a fantastic chance just before half-time, when a Connor Brown hit the post it fell to Jake Lawlor but his header from close range narrowly went wide.

The second-half was a struggle for both sides with heavy wind and plenty of rain meaning first touches were an issue and Raul Correia saw his long range effort go just wide.

Guiseley could have won it late on when Kevan Hurst had a long range effort on the half-volley which zipped across the turf but went narrowly wide.

Cox said: “I want the players to believe a little bit more in the 4-4-2, we just need a goal, build that confidence that is key for us going forward.”
