Crown actress Foy excited to be among British stars vying for Emmy awards

-

BRITISH ACTRESS Claire Foy told of her excitment as she headed to the Emmys with a host of British stars up for awards on television’s biggest night.

The Crown star, who was raised in Leeds, was up for one accolade as was Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown, who at 13 could become the youngest ever Emmy Award winner.

The category of lead actor in a limited series was packed with Britons, with The Night Of’s Riz Ahmed joined by Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock: The Lying Detective and Fargo’s Ewan McGregor.

Claire Foy was nominated for lead actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, which had 13 nominations.

Ahead of the ceremony, she said she was “dead excited”, adding: “It’s going to be great.”

Presenter Stephen Colbert was due to host the 69th Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theatre from 1am British time.

If Millie Bobby Brown beats Thandie Newton and the rest of the talent in the supporting actress in a drama series category, she will become the youngest ever Emmy winner, edging out Roxana Zal who triumphed at 14 in 1984. Sir Anthony Hopkins was also up for his first Emmy in 27 years with nomination for lead actor in a drama series nomination for his role in Westworld. The show co-leads the way with US comedy Saturday Night Live for nominations.
