Coastal campus is going from ‘strength to strength’, says chief

-

A MULTI-MILLION pound university campus which launched on the Yorkshire Coast a year ago is going “from strength-tostrength”, according to its leader.

The £14m CU Scarborough, part of the Coventry University Group, will welcome 400 students to the new academic year and introduce six new degree courses, just 12 months after opening its state-of-the art site.

This year also sees the launch of a range of new courses, including health and social care, primary education and teaching, business management and leadership, law and practice LLB and cyber security and computing science.

Professor Craig Gaskell, associate pro-vice-chancellor of CU Scarborough, said: “We are delighted to welcome both new and existing students for the next academic year.

“It was just 12 months ago that we opened our building, and we have been going from strengthto-strength ever since.

“It is excellent that we have expanded the range of courses on offer this year, and this has been reflected in our growing student numbers.”

In the run-up to the new term, students attended an induction day and freshers’ fair, which allowed them to meet with tutors to find out more about their courses, as well as join in the extra-curricular activities on offer.

The new academic year also marks an important milestone for the Coventry University Group offering, as CU Scarborough and CU Coventry are joined by the new CU London site, based in Dagenham.

The opening of CU London signifies the beginning of a capital, city and coast offering for Coventry University. It means a limited number of degrees students are able to stay on exactly the same course and switch between the UK’s capital, the city of Coventry and the coastal resort of Scarborough.

Prof Gaskell added: “We also look forward to welcoming students from CU London and CU Coventry who choose to complete their degree in Scarborough.”
