Fines may be issued in purge on nuisance
COMMUNITIES WHICH are being blighted by anti-social behaviour in a North Yorkshire market town are being urged to help shape a crackdown which could see on-the-spot fines issued to offenders.
Craven District Council has launched a consultation on plans to tackle anti-social behaviour in the High Street car park in Skipton.
The authority is considering introducing a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) at the car park, after a number of complaints from residents about noise and nuisance in the area.
The order would allow the council to introduce a range of measures to tackle anti-social behaviour, including possible on-the-spot fines for people who break the conditions.
A similar order was introduced in Coach Street car park in Skipton last year after a previous consultation.
The council’s director of services, Paul Ellis, said: “We are consulting on plans to tackle anti-social behaviour in the High Street car park with a PSPO and we would like to hear people’s views on the idea.”
PSPOs were introduced as part of a range of measures in the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, and are intended to stop individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour in a public place.
The consultation on the latest PSPO planned for Skipton is due to conclude at the end of this week, after which a summary of responses will be published. A copy of the consultation document can be downloaded at www. cravendc.gov.uk/pspo.
