The Yorkshire Post victorious at major media awards ceremony

-

THE YORKSHIRE Post has emerged victorious taking a raft of accolades in the county’s biggest media awards.

The newspaper, shortlisted in eight categories in the 02 Media Awards 2017, secured five major titles and received nine commendations including Daily Newspaper of the Year.

“Yet again, the quality of journalism delivered by The Yorkshire

Post to our readers has been recognised by our peers,” said editor James Mitchinson. “It is particular pleasing to see our commitment to investigative journalism praised with Rob Waugh and Rob Parsons taking two of the night’s biggest awards. The Yorkshire

Post has long been commended for its commitment to rural issues and the award for Country

Week is well deserved recognition for the work that goes into it.”

Crime correspondent Rob Parsons was named winner of the Most Memorable Story of the year for his investigation into the Battle of Orgreave, and highly commended as News Reporter of the Year for print. Journalist Rob Waugh was named joint News Reporter of the Year for a portfolio of investigative reports, while The

Yorkshire Post’s Country Week was named Magazine of the Year.

“What is particularly pleasing about this award is that ‘the rural voice has been recognised,” said agricultural correspondent Ben Barnett. “So often rural concerns are marginalised by those on the outside.

“Every week we try to tell the inside story of Yorkshire’s rural communities and inform our rural readership on issues that matter to them, while taking our wider readership along with us.”

There were commendations too for photographers Tony Johnson and James Hardisty, writer Tony Earnshaw, reporter Ruby Kitchen, the Johnston Press investigations team, Dave Craven, and The Magazine. Our sister title, the Yorkshire

Evening Post, was highly commended twice, with Phil Hay named Sports Journalist of the Year, and Graham Walker, for Johnston Press Yorkshire, named Online Reporter of the Year.
