IN BEST POSSIBLE TASTE
Yorkshire’s Black Swan top restaurant in world
A NORTH Yorkshire restaurant has been named the best in the world by online reviewers.
The accolade for the Black Swan at Oldstead, between Thirsk and Helmsley, comes just a week after it retained its Michelin star – one of only five in the county to hold the award – in the guide’s 2018 edition.
It has now been placed at the top of a list of 25 “best fine dining restaurants” worldwide on the website TripAdvisor.co.uk
The family-run restaurant, which also holds four AA rosettes, is said by the site’s visitors to be “a tantalising trip for the taste buds” and “truly a box of delights”.
It is the first time a British establishment has topped the list since the awards were created, five years ago.
Only two other UK eateries feature this year – the Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire, at number two, and Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck at Bray in Berkshire, in 12th place.
The Black Swan’s £95 tasting menu includes squid dressed in horseradish juice and Crapaudine beetroot cooked slowly in beef fat.
Its head chef, Tommy Banks, who runs the restaurant with brother James, said the award “recognised the hard work each member of the team puts into every element of running the Black Swan”.
