Underground fire hits power supply

An underground electricity supply in East Yorkshire caught fire.

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to Newgate Street, Cottingham, after reports of a fire at about 9.45am yesterday.

An underground electricity supply in the street was on fire, and the flames spread to nearby bushes.

Crews used a dry powder extinguisher to douse the flames, the spokesperson added.
