Steelers cruise to victory over Stars

-

It took only four minutes or so for the writing to be on the wall for Dundee Stars in their 8-2 loss at Sheffield Steelers last night.

The Steelers had already twice won convincingly against Omar Pacha’s struggling side prior to their latest meeting at Ice Sheffield and an inevitable repeat was clearly on the cards after Andreas Valdix struck with just 4.03 on the clock, Andre Deveaux pouncing 17 seconds later to make it 2-0

But, thanks mainly to goaltender Travis Fullerton, Dundee stayed in contention and halved the deficit at 6.16 through Taylor Dickin.

Fullerton was eventually beaten for a third time, however, when Robert Dowd set up Ben O’Connor to fire into the roof of the net from eight yards out before the period was over.

Just over two minutes into the second, it was 4-1 when Levi Nelson put home a rebound from Valdix’s initial shot, with Swedish forward Andreas Jamtin increasing the agony for the visitors at 29.23.

A breakaway from Jon Phillips saw him exchange a neat one-two with the equally-spritely Brady Ramsay before firing past a stranded Fullerton at 36.30.

The Stars reduced the deficit through Matthew Gould at 42.12, but Dowd and Scott Aarssen ensured the Steelers repeated the 8-2 win they posted against the same opponents at the same venue in September.
