Motorists warned of delays over link road
MOTORISTS HAVE been warned to expect delays while work is carried out on the final phase of a multi-million-pound project to improve access to an airport in South Yorkshire.
The major infrastructure project will complete a direct link from junction three of the M18 motorway to Doncaster Sheffield Airport, connecting Great Yorkshire Way from the A638 Bawtry Road and Great North Road to a new roundabout on Hurst Lane.
Contractors for Doncaster Council, which is overseeing the scheme, are currently laying a new road surface at what will become a new roundabout on Bawtry Road and Great North Road, just south of Parrots Corner. To complete the roundabout, part of Bawtry Road and Great North Road will be closed from Friday at 8pm until 6am on Monday next week.
Martin Black, the senior project manager for the contractor Carillion, stressed the work is being carried out outside of peak hours, and added: “We aim to complete this vital work in just one weekend but this will depend on the weather and so as a precaution we have also made plans to work over the following weekend if necessary. I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these very important works may cause.”
The first section of the £56m dual carriageway linking the M18 with Robin Hood Airport was officially opened in February last year. The Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme runs from junction three to the A638. It is hoped that the final phase of the scheme will be opened by late spring next year.
