Concern over petrol station proposals

-

CONCERNS HAVE been raised over proposals for a new petrol station to be built in North Yorkshire.

Euro Garages has submitted an outline application for a site in Ripon which was home to a former bus depot. It would see the existing building, the former home of Calverts Carpets on Hutton Bank, demolished to make way for a new petrol station, convenience store, cash machine and drive-through restaurant. While not a formal application, outline submissions seeks to establish whether such development may be acceptable .

Coun Mike Chambers, who represents the Ripon North Division ward on North Yorkshire County Council, said: “Although, as yet, an outline application I do however have some serious concerns that this proposed development could prove detrimental to local residents – noise, fumes, light pollution and an increase in traffic.

“I would also point out that Ripon already has three such outlets, one of which is relatively nearby to the proposed site.

“I again stress, however, that this is an outline application which might bring some benefits by way of commuted sums to local residents. Were it to gain approval, I would insist on the need for strong conditions being attached in ensuring the protection of residents.

“I now need to listen to and engage with the concerns or otherwise of those residents affected by this proposed development.”

No-one was available for comment from Euro Garages despite repeated attempts to contact the developer.
