TRIBUTES HAVE been paid to a “passionate” and “popular” 15-year-old girl who died after a car ploughed into pedestrians at a bus stop in West Yorkshire.

Police yesterday said three other people were injured in the incident involving a BMW 5 Series car in Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, on Wednesday morning.

Shelley College pupil Katelyn Dawson, who was at the bus stop, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance but she died later. College principal John McNally said: “We were devastated to hear the news that Katelyn passed away and our hearts go out to her family, who have suffered such a tragic and sudden loss.

“Katelyn was a passionate, popular student, who was just starting to realise how much potential she had. She loved life and lived it to the full. She loved to dance and was starting to plan her options for when she left school this year.

“Her loss, at a time when she had everything to look forward to in life, is sad beyond words.”

A 17-year-old girl who also studies at the college was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while a 47-year-old woman was said to be in a stable condition. The BMW driver, a 51-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be lifethreatening.

Police are continuing to seek information about the crash, which happened at about 8.15am near the Broad Lane junction.
