Number of student beds hits new high

A record number of new student bed spaces were delivered in 2017, taking the total number available to 602,000, according to a new report.

The number of beds rose by 30,000 last year. In Leeds, which is home to 19,850 purpose-built bed spaces, average en-suite rents at £132 per week are less expensive than Manchester and Birmingham.

However, last year saw ensuite rents in the city rise by two per cent and studios by four per cent, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s UK Student Accommodation Report.
