Sir David brings prehistoric York back to life
MEMBERS OF York’s Museums Trust are being offered the chance to meet the naturalist Sir David Attenborough when he opens a Jurassic World exhibition in the city in March.
Sir David will present a talk at a preview event and then take a guided tour of the display at the Yorkshire Museum, which uses virtual-reality technology to chart the landscape of the prehistoric county and the huge creatures which inhabited it.
A second competition will give schoolchildren from York the chance to quiz the TV presenter, who said he was “looking forward to meeting the children and hearing their opinions and questions on the natural world”.
Sir David added: “I have been interested in palaeontology and the world of dinosaurs and sea dragons since I was a child.
“It remains a subject which still fascinates and excites me to this day.”
The competition for cardholding members of the Museums Trust is being organised via email. Reyahn King, its chief executive, described Sir David’s passion for natural history as “unparalleled”.
She said: “We are delighted he will be using his unique abilities to communicate the wonders of the natural world to York schoolchildren, who will have the chance to meet him and ask questions.”
Sir David will visit York on Friday, March 23, a day before the exhibition opens to the public.
