Decisions due over future of city doctors’ surgeries

-

A DECISION on the future of doctors’ surgeries is expected as fears are raised over the loss of GP services.

Health bosses in Leeds will discuss the possible closure of Radshan Medical Centre in Kippax at a meeting today.

A report to the meeting of the city’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee said the current provider, The Practice PLC, could cease running the service on April 30.

The report said: “Since April 2016, the practice has found it difficult to recruit to salaried GP and practice manager posts.”

Patients would be encouraged to register with other nearby surgeries, the report said.

The future of a surgery on the city’s Cottingley estate will also be discussed at today’s meeting.

A temporary provider has been running Cottingley Surgery since June 2017, but that arrangement could end on March 31. A survey of people on the estate raised concerns that patients would struggle to travel elsewhere for treatment if the surgery closed.

An existing GP practice elsewhere could take over the Cottingley service as a branch surgery, the report said.

On Tuesday, the committee will also hold a meeting over the future of GP three surgeries in Swillington, Rothwell and Middleton.

Grange Medicare is due to cease running the three practices when its contract ends in October.
