Autism work highlighted along with outstanding Ofsted verdict
A SPECIAL school in the East Riding has been awarded ‘outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted inspectors for a second time.
St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College at Welton has undergone a two-part Ofsted inspection which saw the top grade awarded to both the school and its 18-bed residential facility.
In addition, St Anne’s has also received the National Autism Accreditation Award from the National Autistic Society, with a special commendation.
This is a recognition of excellence achieved after three years of working with the society on a comprehensive programme. It is the only school in the East Riding to achieve the accreditation and award.
In the latest Ofsted report, inspectors said the leadership team has maintained the outstanding quality of education in the school since its previous inspection.
“Your ambition to do the very best for the pupils in St Anne’s shines through all of the school’s work and is shared by other leaders, staff and governors alike,” the inspectors say in a letter to headteacher Lesley Davis.
“Collectively, you have tackled the few areas that required improvement at the last inspection successfully and many strengths.”
The report highlights that pupils’ personal development remains outstanding, along with their resilience, social and emotional skills.
The social care inspection of the residential facility confirms its outstanding status, and finds it has a positive impact on pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour and communication.
St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College, and The Residence, has 144 pupils and students aged two to 19 years. All pupils and students have severe and complex learning difficulties, and more than half are on the autistic spectrum.
Mrs Davis said: “I am delighted that all the hard work that goes into making a difference for all our pupils and young people has been duly recognised.” built on the
