MPs raise concerns at delays over Carillion redundancy payments

-

MPS HAVE raised concerns about delays in claiming redundancy pay for workers at collapsed construction giant Carillion.

The heads of two select committees have written to the Insolvency Service urging it to give information to those affected and to set out the timescales for payments to be made. Almost 1,000 jobs have been lost among Carillion employees since the company went into liquidation last month. Frank Field, who chairs the Work and Pensions Committee, and Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves, of the Business Committee, said in a letter: “Our committees have received representations from Carillion employees who have been made redundant but are now waiting for the necessary information required to make claims for redundancy pay and statutory notice pay.

“We are concerned that there has been no timescale given for when they can expect to receive the required information, and that it may take up to a further six weeks before they will then receive the payments.

“We ask that the Insolvency Service ensures that the necessary information for employees who have been made redundant is provided as an urgent priority, and that you confirm to the committees when this has been done and the timescales for payments to be made.”

The service said 6,600 jobs had been saved. Earlier, the Official Receiver said: “Ongoing employment has been confirmed for more than a third of Carillion’s workforce so far as part of the liquidation.

“There is a lot of interest from potential purchasers in the contracts the company delivered which will see the number of jobs safeguarded continue to increase.”
