IT WILL be a spectacle that would leave even William Shakespeare lost for words.

The 100-day countdown has begun to the launch of a festival in York celebrating the Bard in a pop-up Rose Theatre.

Tickets are on sale for unique and exciting Summer of Shakespeare in the city from June to September.

Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A

Midsummer Night’s Dream and Richard III are to be performed in a pop-up replica Shakespearean theatre.

Auditions are underway in London and York and tickets are now on sale.

Visitors can also enjoy free entry to Shakespeare’s Village, which will offer Yorkshire food and drink as well as entertainment, an Elizabethan-style garden and much more.

Situated near Clifford’s Tower, Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre will combine state-of-the-art scaffolding technology, corrugated iron and timber with the historic 13-sided design of a 16th-century Shakespearean theatre. It will house an audience of 950.

James Cundall, of Lunchbox Theatre Productions, which originated and will manage the project, said Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre in York is ‘every bit as exciting’ as the original built in London in 1587 by the River Thames.
