Germans are invited on tourism drive
PEOPLE FROM Germany will be encouraged to visit cities and beauty spots around England as part of a £1m tourism project.
Destinations including Leeds and York will benefit from cash from the Discover England Fund to create a 300-mile touring route.
Germany was chosen as the target market for the initiative, which aims to attract international visitors and boost trade for tourist sites and travel agents.
Almost 250,000 people from overseas visit York each year and seven per cent of overseas visitors to the city already arrive from Germany. Sally Greenaway, head of Visit York, said: “We’re delighted to have won our bid to take part in this new campaign, which will make it easier for people to plan and book a trip to York and tour the rest of eastern England.”
The 300-mile touring route will stretch from London to Northumberland.
