TWO people have been killed in a smash on the M62 after a car driving in the wrong direction crashed into another vehicle.

West Yorkshire Police said two men aged 34 and 37 died in the collision on the carriageway between Leeds and Bradford in the early hours of yesterday.

Officers were called at 2.34am to reports a vehicle was driving eastbound on the westbound carriageway near junction 26.

A spokesman said they were called again shortly afterwards to reports of a two-car crash.

Two men in a Skoda Octavia died at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver of the second car, a black Vauxhall Insignia, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and failing a roadside breath test.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At 2.34am officers received a report of a vehicle driving the wrong way down the M62, travelling eastbound on the westbound carriageway at junction 26.

“Further calls to police reported a collision on the carriageway. Officers attended and located two vehicles on the motorway.
