‘Significant’ rail landslip could disrupt trains until next week
TRAINS BETWEEN Leeds and Ilkley could be halted until next week after a “significant” landslip near Guiseley.
Arriva Rail North, which operates the Northern franchise, said the direct trains between the West Yorkshire stations were cancelled due to a landslip at Springs Tunnel.
A message posted on Northern’s Twitter feed yesterday said: “A significant landslip has occurred between Guiseley and Kirkstall Forge. This landslip occurred near the railway and moved a tree so that it has become unstable.
“Network Rail are on site now working to clear the tree from the line and ensure that it is safe for trains to run through, and as a result, the direct line from Ilkley to Leeds is blocked.”
A Northern spokesperson later said there would be no direct train services between Leeds and Ilkley for some time.
He said: “Customers travelling between Leeds and Ilkley are advised to change trains at Shipley. Journeys between Bradford Forster Square and Ilkley are not affected. This is likely to continue until Monday 9 April while repairs are ongoing.”
The firm advised rail users to check its Twitter feed or the National Rail website for up-to-date information.
An update yesterday afternoon said Northern had secured “ticket acceptance” on First Bus services running between Leeds and Ilkley for yesterday and today only.
